I've been updating the rules as I go, but I thought it might be helpful to have some
unconventionalcourtship FAQs obviously answered in a list. The first one is outside the cut as it is the most relevant.
Q. Can I still sign up?
A. Yes. You can sign up until the penultimate day of the fest.
Q. I'm an LJ user. How do I post to the comm?
A. Comment on this post and
tidal_race or I will post it for you.
Questions about sign-up
Q. Can I sign up for more than one day/write more than one fic?
A. Of course!
Q. Can I sign up for a day that loads of people have already signed up for?
A. Yes. I'd prefer to keep things kind of even, but I don't really mind.
Q. Can I change the date I signed up for?
A. Yes, just let us know.
Q. Does my fic have to be posted at a certain time on the day I signed up for?
A. No. Whenever is convenient for you is fine.
Q. If I don't know whether I'll be able to write the fic. Can I sign up anyway?
A. If you're really unsure, I'd prefer it if you didn't sign up - or, put another way, if you sign up, I'd prefer it if you did post a fic on your chosen day. However, that said... you can sign up and drop out (I'd just prefer it if you didn't). And you can wait until you think you've got a good chance of finishing before you sign up. Sign ups are open right up until the end of the fest.
Questions about using and altering summaries
Q. What if more than one writer choses the same M&B plot?
A. It's totally fine with me and since I didn't insist on being told which plots everyone was choosing there's no way of monitoring it. Given that the fest is panfandom, it seems unlikely that two people using the same plot would even be working in the same fandom, let alone with the same characters. If you're worried about someone else using the same plot as you, maybe go to the M&B or Harlequin website and choose a novel that isn't on the list, as those are less likely to have been picked.
Q. How much leeway do we have with the summary? Can we alter some points if the overall plot follows the summary?
A. I'd prefer it if you kept as close to the summary as possible, only changing names, pronouns and locations. HOWEVER, if you want to alter the summary a bit more that's fine, as long as you stick to the basic spirit of the prompt.
Q. Can I use a summary from another romance publisher, such as Avon, or do we have to use a Mills & Boon or Harlequin summary?
A. Summaries from anything that is obviously a romance book are OK by me.
Questions about pairings
Q. Is RPS and original fiction allowed?
A. Yes.
Q. Are OT3s allowed?
A. Yes, although you might have some difficulties mangling the summaries to fit. If you think you can do it, though, go for it!
Questions about fic specifications
Q. Do I need to get my fic betaed?
A. No, but it's generally a good idea.
Q. Is there a maximum word limit?
A. No. As long as you're over the minimum of 1,000, the sky's the limit. Unless you're on LJ when 10,000 words is the limit (unless they changed it again)(and obviously you can just link multiple posts, so really there is no limit - see my earlier answer).
Q. Are NC-17 stories allowed?
A. Yes, any rating is OK, but remember to use the header given in the rules. If you think anything you've written should be warned for, please do use warnings.
Other questions
Q. Can I use the fic I write for
unconventionalcourtship for another challenge as well i.e.
trope_bingo?
A. Yes.
Q. Do you have an AO3 collection?
A. We do now. It is here.
Any more for any more?
