Not long until posting starts! How's the writing going? Have bears been sighted or have your characters decided they need 100,000 words to do a summary justice?
I've written the first chapter of what looks like a multi-chapter fantasy with a curse, a brooding half-vampire, and much bickering; it's enemies-to-lovers, so I expect this will take a certain number of words before it gets to the (hopefully) happily-ever-after.
Surprisingly, I have one story finished! It's slightly crack-y but really fun. I'm deciding if I should wrap up another now or let it simmer on slow burn...
I am desperately needing to pick my prompt (still!) and then rein in my inevitable impulse to make it 50,000+ words. BUT. I am still going to do this, damn it! I'm trying to leave the bears in the rearview, haha.
Well, my first idea is not going to be done bc There Is Too Much Plot (and the power supply on my pc died so I didn't have my files for over a week) but I did have a second idea in mind that I think will be done on time, so. :D?
Yeah. I mean, I could rush it, but the world-building and time I want to put into the plot is going to be Too Long for this challenge (ty mediaeval knight AU), but that's okay! My second idea is a fake marriage one, and I don't think there's quite so much story there, so I should be able to get that one finished at least. I had planned it as a second story, so was always going to write it, just didn't expect it to be my main plot, but here we are. I'm still excited to finish my first one though, whenever that is. <3
Can't go wrong with a fake marriage plot! Yeah, when you add having to build a world as well as characters it takes extra time. I'm glad you've got fic you're excited to be writing which is the main thing.
It's mostly done, it just needs more description. I think. I'm leaving for a while and hoping that'll help me work out what to change/add to improve it.
I picked two prompts, but wisely chose to focus on the first one. I wrote 6k in a week and then...my muse went on vacation. Thankfully, it's mostly outlined all the way to the end so I should finish it by the time I'm due to post. :)
Having an outline does help a lot, at least you can write from point to point and hope the Muse turns up to add some stardust. All the best with writing!
*deep breath* This is why I always choose the end of the month, because it's right about now I start having tanic appacks about completing my fic. I just reread the summary I chose and it's fine and I have a great idea, but the actual *writing*??? Yeah....
My story became too much heavy with plot and background building so I had to put it aside and choose a new summary which I could complete feasibly by my time to post. Ah, when characters and plot both run away determined to play! 😂
I've picked my prompt, got my outline, and am going to officially declare shortly...
What is the challenge policy on completed vs. in-progress works? Does what we post have to be a 100% finished fic, or are we allowed to post an in-progress work (obviously still meeting the minimum word count.)
Totally understand either way - just trying to figure out how much I have to cram in to the next few weeks, as the plot inevitably runs away from me. ;)
If you know you'll be able finish the fic sometime(!) and have 1000 words to post as a coherent first chapter that's alright. E.g one year I had the finished draft, but I didn't have the time to type it all up in time for my posting day.
That's fantastically comforting news! I've got the whole fic planned out, but I just don't know that I can actually get it all written and edited by the end of the month. Thank you!
I'm not going to hit my June 23 deadline. I just plain bit off more than I can chew this month. I'm still working on the story and will try to have it done by the 30th.
